ALTAR SERVERS

     
We invite both girls and boys in our parish to serve as 
Altar Servers. Altar Servers assist at regularly scheduled 
Saturday and Sunday Masses, as well as Holy Days of Obligation,
Weddings, Baptisims, Monday night Novena's, Communions, Confirmations
and special parish Masses. They must be in at least the fourth grade.
Currently we have 38 boys and 51 girls serving our parish ranging from
fourth grade to twelfth grade! 

Altar Server training takes place once a year and is conducted
by Father Edward Sheridan along with members of the Altar
Server Parent Committee. Our Altar Server Parent Committee 
currently consists of ten parents who assist with training, meetings,
chaperoning, and telephone calls. After attending the training 
sessions, the children are scheduled as "apprentice" Altar Servers.
Altar Server schedules are published every seven weeks.
They are always available to be picked up in the sacristy
or rectory the weekend before the current schedule expires.

There are usually two Altar Server meetings throughout
the year. The meetings are started with prayer and reflection.
Altar Server meetings offer a forum to inform the servers 
of any changes in the Mass, as well as an opportunity for the
servers to ask questions. In addition, these meetings offer a 
"social" opportunity for the Altar Servers to form friendships.
Pizza and dessert are served!

Once a year the Altar Servers are rewarded for their dedication,
commitment and reliability with an Altar Server trip. Past trips
have been to Adventureland and Shea Stadium. The Altar Server
trip takes place over the summer vacation.
